THE QUEBEC CONSERVATIVE PARTY SUPPORTS THE LNG QUÉBEC PROJECT

Québec, 20 octobre 2020 - "In order to have sustainable development, you first need development! "

This is what Adrien Pouliot, leader of the Québec Conservative Party (QCP), mentioned when the Party tabled a brief with the BAPE in support of LNG Québec's liquefied natural gas project in the Saguenay.

According to the QCP, the obsession of opponents of the project to limit their analysis to the ecological footprint in Quebec is completely counterproductive and the risks, especially those to beluga whales, are low.

The QCP recognizes in the brief that all human development activity involves an environmental risk, but also real and measurable benefits. In this instance, the nature of the risks and the mitigation strategies put forward by GNL Québec make the project acceptable. This is what a majority of respondents seem to believe in a September survey on social acceptability among the local population of Saguenay.

“The Conservative Party of Québec considers that there are obvious benefits for not only the local community, but also for Québec, Canada and many countries that will accrue from a new source of supply of cleaner fuel that emits less GHGs than the ones they use”, added André Valiquette, president of the Policy Commission of the Party.

"The BAPE must give the Government a favorable opinion on the project while recommending that the best commercially viable practices in terms of construction and operation be deployed by GNLQ to ensure an environmentally friendly and profitable project" concluded Jimmy Voyer, vice-president of the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region for the Party.
