A 40% TAX BREAK FOR QUEBEC’S SMALL BUSINESSES

For immediate release

August 26th, 2018

QUÉBEC – Adrien Pouliot, leader of the Conservative Party of Québec, announced today a first electoral promise : a gulp of oxygen for Small and Medium-Size Businesses (“SMEs”).

Québec SMEs other than in the manufacturing and primary sector pay the highest tax rate in Canada. Such a rate discourages investment and entrepreneurship, especially in a context of globalization, where American competitors to our Quebec companies have recently benefited from a significant drop in their tax rate.

It should be remembered that the negative effects of high corporate taxes are in practice mainly borne by workers, either by limiting wage increases, reducing hiring or by weakening the long-term ability of businesses to offer better prices to their suppliers, which has an influence on their employees.

"We are going to eliminate the $ 3.1 billion in grants and tax credits for businesses that can afford to pay for lobbyists or who are well connected to the government powers. We will take this money to immediately reduce the tax burden of Quebec companies by 40% "said Mr. Pouliot," without increasing the deficit or the debt ".
